Get Involved

Our vision is to honour the memories of those buried or memorialised at Ballast Hills Burial Ground (BHBG) and to deepen understanding of their lives and the site itself.

Volunteering with our project offers a meaningful opportunity to make a difference. Whether you have a background in history, research, genealogy, or simply a passion for preserving heritage, your involvement will be invaluable. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Help Uncover and Document History: Assist in the research and documentation of the site, a theme, or what is happening in Newcastle during its time a burial site.
  • Preserve Cultural Heritage: Contribute to ensuring the stories of the past are remembered and respected.
  • Engage with a Dedicated Community: Connect with others who share your passion for history and heritage.

Expanding Volunteer Roles

As our project progresses, we are refining and finalising our volunteer policies and role descriptions. We recognise that a well-structured volunteer programme is essential for both our team and our volunteers. We are committed to clearly defining roles and ensuring that our policies support a positive, productive volunteering experience.

Partnering with Volunteer Organizations

Due to current capacity, we are not able to manage a large number of volunteers directly. Instead, we are focusing on forming strategic partnerships with existing volunteer organisations. These collaborations allow us to maximise impact and ensure our goals are aligned. At present, we are working with Ouseburn Trust and hope to establish further partnershis.
